Norbert

Born: 2020
Breed: Noriker
Colour: Black
Height: 16 hh

Elias Nero XIII is a rather stunning Noriker horse – but we all call him Norbert! He is a gentle giant, typical of his breed, Noriker horses are an sure-footed Austrian draught horse breed.

Norbert joined the yard in 2023 and has recently begun working in our higher-level lessons.  Norbert is very happy for you to pat him at his stable door!

Smartie

Born: 2001
Breed: Connemara X
Colour: Grey
Height: 15hh

Smartie is our resident laid back sun worshipper with a cheeky side. He’s great with our beginners and while some may say he’s lazy, we just think he likes to take a chilled-out approach to life. Unflappable and calm, he’s brilliant working with riders with additional needs and our older learners.  His party trick is to pass back his feed bucket when he’s finished so our yard team can fill it up for him!

Gunner

Height: 14 hh

Gunner loves a cuddle and bananas are his absolute favourite treat. He’s very popular with our teen riders as he likes his work in the school and is a real character on the yard. Do say hello if you see him at his stable door – he does love a nose scratch. He also has one of the funkiest fringes at Ride High!

Micky

Micky joined the team in 2022. He’s a cute, cuddly, friendly chap with a gorgeous thick mane and tail. As a youngster, he’s very inquisitive and is still learning his role with us, but he is doing well in lessons and is proving to be a fast learner!

Carrie

Born: 2016
Welsh Section A X
Colour: Bay
Height: 12 hh

Carrie is definitely vying with Heidi for the prettiest pony award! She has a big personality, despite her diminutive size – She doesn’t like to be idle and is a fun, forward ride for our more competent younger riders, as her little legs can move very fast – which was great for the summer’s gymkhana games; but she is also a sensible and kind pony on the lead-rein with beginners.  Do say hello to Carrie if you see her on the yard!

Dusty

Born: 2001
Breed: Shetland x Mini Cob
Colour: Grey
Height: 11.2hh

Dusty is one of the smallest members of the Ride High family and perfect for our littlest riders to learn on. He’s a cheeky chap and he has some of the funkiest rugs on the yard!

Wilson

Born: 2020
Breed: Cob
Colour: Piebald
Height: 14 hh

Wilson is a happy-go-lucky soul who likes cuddles on the yard but does enjoy his privacy and quiet-time in his stable. He’s also quite adept at stealing hay if you go too close with his neighbour’s hay net!  Wilson joined us in 2024 and is equally happy working with our beginners and our more advanced riders.  Look out for Wilson at your next lesson!

Trifle

Trifle is a beautiful black Cob-cross, a sturdy pony, with a pretty face and a lovely nature to match.  She’s a bright soul who hadn’t done much  schooling before she joined Ride High, but she’s proving to be willing and smart and we think she will be great with our younger riders.  Do say hello if you see her on the yard!

Useful Information

*HH stands for hands high.

Horses are traditionally measured in hands and inches from the ground up to the base of the horse’s neck.

A hand is 4 inches so a 14. 2 hands high (hh) pony means 14 hands and 2 inches. Therefore 58 inches from the ground to his shoulder/base of neck.

The colour 'grey'

In the horse world every horse that looks white is called grey. Horses that are grey can be born any colour, however, bay, chestnut, or black base colours are most common. As the horse matures, white hairs begin to replace the base or birth colour – which explains why our snowy white Treacle probably got her name!
